Piracy in the Caribbean began to wane in 1730. The Oxford English Dictionary dates the first appearance of the word vampire in the English language from 1734. In 1743, the first recorded use of roller skates occurred in a London stage performance. Notice the pattern? Fast forward to Saturday night, March 26th, 2011: Rolling Plunder versus the Vampirates in the Chesapeake Roller Derby – an exciting evening which combined vampires, piracy and blistering rollerskating. The only thing missing was rum.
Following up on my last post, we are obsessed with Roller Derby and these wonderful people. Sadly, Coco couldn’t make it tonight (nor DD), so Lily and I went. Next bout, for sure.
Lily got some practice time on the track before things got under way. She’s improved since even last weekend! Fast.

Jabber Wacky skated one of her wheels off.

This was incredibly fun to watch – not Jabber loosing her wheel – but the skating. In the second half, the Vampirates asked Lily to be a JAMMER!
Maiden China fixed her up with some blood:

Coach Marzipain coached.

If you look at the arrow in the blurry photo above, you can see Lily killing it. And just look at these amazing people.
Here’s some video I cobbled together using only my wrist watch and the bottom of a broken bottle.
Lily and I had a great time. She is one happy kid tonight. These people have been so kind to my family. I love them and you should, too.
Thanks so much for making it out… We missed the rest of the family. We are thinking about you!
so that’s how you guys “roll” out east huh…NICE
Looks fun!
Makes me wna buy a pair of skates!
and you’re awesome Lily!
This is so great. Lil’s face is priceless, she is almost popping with excitement! Those Roller Derby Pirates are awesome. Let us know when the next one is. :)
