Seen, Heard, Read
Wednesday, October 7th, 2009From the Scheduling desk at Jim Industries come the following notices:
1.

On November 5th, at the Maryland Institute College of Art, TEDx MidAtlantic will take place. From the Web site:
TED conferences bring together the world’s leading thinkers and doers for a series of talks, presentations and performances. TED celebrates the convergence of Technology, Entertainment, and Design. TED events have been called “The ultimate brain spa,” “Davos for optimists” and “A journey into the future, in the company of those creating it.”
I had to fill out a rather intense application for this, which asked me to explain just “who I am” and what it is about me that would make an appropriate audience member. I’m glad they accepted my answers – among the presenters are:
- Scott Simon Journalist, National Public Radio
- Aneesh Chopra Chief Technology Officer, United States
- Rebecca Hoffberger Founder, American Visionary Art Museum
And lots of amazing Baltimore peeps are attending. Registration is still open, too – get in there. Wow.
2.

I was notified this week that I’ll be presenting a talk on WordPress at the FitBloggin’ conference. I’m extremely excited about this. I get to talk about two things I’m deeply interested in: WordPress and my theories on the Power of Positive Thinking. I’m hoping this will be recorded so I can share it later.
3.

It’s entirely possible I wouldn’t be doing the work I do today if it wasn’t for the Web Standards Project, which is a grassroots coalition fighting for standards which ensure simple, affordable access to web technologies for all.
There’s a new initiative within the W3 called the Open Web Education Alliance, which wants to help enhance and standardize the architecture of the World Wide Web by facilitating the highest quality standards and best practice based education for future generations of Web professionals through such activities as
- fostering open communication channels for knowledge transfer
- curriculum sharing between corporate entities, educational institutions, Web professionals, and students.
I’m taking a crack at writing a learning module for the group. I picked JavaScript because I’ve taught it for the past two semesters, and, well, I’m pretty lit up about it.
And finally….
4.
I’m claiming 15 seconds of Star Wars glory for myself. Watch the trailer…so awesome.
More on all these topics as they unfold…
